Kirk Buscho started this company in Colorado in 1982, fixing furnaces for neighbors who knew his name. In 2000 he and the family moved the operation to Phoenix and kept right on going.

Today Way Cool runs as a true family business. Kirk still owns it. His kids run operations, install, and marketing. When we send a tech to your house, we send someone who works the way the Buscho family taught them to work — honest, unhurried, and not looking to upsell you on something we wouldn't buy ourselves.

Yes, when capacity allows. Same-day HVAC service in Phoenix is one of our most-requested calls during summer. We prioritize no-cool emergencies in 100°+ weather. If you call before noon, we usually get you on the board for the same day. If we can't, we'll tell you that up front and book the earliest slot.

How long do AC units last in Phoenix?

Phoenix runs an AC unit 6–8 months a year, which is double the national average. Most systems last 12–15 years here compared to 15–20 years in milder climates. If your unit is over 12 and you're getting frequent repairs, it's time to start planning for a replacement before it dies on a 115° day.

What size AC do I need for my Phoenix home?

Phoenix's heat load is higher than almost anywhere else in the country, so the simple square-foot rule doesn't work. We do a Manual J load calculation that factors your insulation, window orientation, ductwork, and shading. A right-sized unit lasts longer, runs quieter, and costs less to operate. Our HVAC system builder gives you a starting recommendation; we confirm on-site.

Two rules of thumb: if your unit is 12+ years old and the repair quote is more than half the cost of a new system, replace it. If your unit uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out in 2020, prices keep climbing), replacement usually wins on math within two years. We'll show you both numbers honestly so you can decide.

Our service call is $89, day or night, weekday or weekend. No after-hours premium. It's waived in full when you approve any repair, so the only time you pay it is if we diagnose your system and you decide not to move forward. Most other Phoenix HVAC companies charge more, especially after hours.

Both APS and SRP offer significant rebates on high-efficiency systems, heat pumps, and home performance work. Amounts change every year and depend on equipment SEER ratings. We track the current programs and file the paperwork for you. On a typical 16+ SEER install, customers see $400–$2,000+ back depending on utility and equipment.

What is a Home Energy Audit and do I need one?

A home energy audit is a detailed diagnostic of where your house is wasting energy. We use blower door tests to find air leaks, thermal cameras to find insulation gaps, and duct leakage tests to measure how much conditioned air your ducts lose. Most Phoenix homes lose 20–30% to ducts and envelope leakage. Fixing the worst offenders can cut summer bills by $50–$150 a month. For first-time Way Cool customers, the audit is on us.
